Students don’t play in NCAA games because of the distance of Alaska to the rest of the United States, but they do have opportunities to play on intramural athletic teams. All campuses within the university are covered by this accreditation, and the overall institution undergoes regular reviews to maintain its positive accreditation status. Regional accreditation is an approval that extends to the overall university rather than its individual programs. There are a handful of programs at the University of Alaska Southeast that are accredited by programmatic entities and organizations. For example, the teacher education programs at the bachelor’s and graduate degree levels are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. To apply to the University of Alaska Southeast, students will first submit the official application through the school’s application portal. The application online is part of a statewide portal for the University of Alaska Southeast , as well as the campuses in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Some programs have unique admissions requirements that students should examine in advance of submitting an online application. To complete enrollment, students who receive a notice that they have been accepted to the university and their chosen degree program will create an account with the university, take math and writing placement tests, and meet with an advisor. Students will then be able to sign up for classes, apply for financial aid, apply for housing, and order textbooks. Tuition for residents of Alaska for programs at the University of Alaska Southeast is $223 per credit. Students who are eligible for a tuition discount through the Western Undergraduate Exchange program may qualify for a tuition rate of $335 per credit. Non-residents will pay $789 per credit. For the first four credits of enrollment, all students pay the same rate as residents. Upper-division classes are priced at a slightly higher rate. Graduate students who attend the University of Alaska Southeast will pay a rate of $513 per credit, and non-residents will pay $1,079 per credit. The first four credits for residents and non-residents is the same with all enrollees paying $513 per credit. There are also some other fees that students will need to pay. For example, the network access fee is $9 to $43 per credit and is based on a student’s academic level and his or her residency status. Financial aid at the University of Alaska Southeast is available to qualified students who submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the start of classes. The priority deadline for financial aid for the fall session is June 30, but students should try to submit their forms as early as possible to secure the largest financial award available. There are additional deadlines for the other terms in the winter and summer. Alaska residents may receive a University of Alaska Foundation Scholarship if they meet certain requirements. Eligibility is based on the number of credits a student takes, the student’s overall GPA, and whether he or she has maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
