About Langston University
Langston University originated in 1897. The Oklahoma Legislature passed Bill 151 to use Morrill Land-Grant funds. It created the Colored Agricultural & Normal University. By 1915, the permanent campus was built in Central Oklahoma. In 1941, the Langston University name was adopted to honor US Congressman John Mercer Langston. Six years later, famed Harlem Renaissance poet Melvin B. Tolson joined LU’s faculty. In 1948, Langston joined the Association of American Colleges. In 1960, President William Henri Hale established a 10-year integration plan to admit the first white students. In 1974, the Five College Curriculum Innovative Thrust Program was launched. In 1979, the Oklahoma City Center was opened for upper-division learning. In 2000, the Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling became Langston’s first graduate degree. Langston University is endowed for $44.2 million. It employs 147 faculty teaching 1,945 undergrad and 174 post-grad students from 30 nations. It has over 45 clubs like Distinguished Black Women. In 2016, Langston had an HBCU All-Star Award finalist. In 2018, LU received the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities Excellence in Teaching Award. The U.S. News & World Report named Langston the 57th best historically Black college and 113th top social mobility performer. On Niche, LU isAmerica’s 95th best Greek life and 264th most liberal academics. It’s ranked Oklahoma’s fifth best value by PayScale. College Factual ranked Langston:- 96th for agriculture

Langston University Application Requirements
Getting into Langston University is classified as “moderately difficult” with a 61 percent acceptance rate. First-year students must complete at least 15 units of college-prep high school academics or the GED. Prerequisites are:- four English units
