About Grantham University

Grantham University is a large online university that offers more than 50 degree options for students. It is one of the only online schools in Kansas with a wide range of associate programs too. Established in 1951, the university was originally the Grantham Radio License School. Named after its founder, the school helped soldiers returning from World War II and other students earn their radio licenses. As the school grew, it established other smaller branches outside of the state. As the university operates online, it offers opportunities for all types of students. Grantham was one of the only schools operating out of Louisiana that allowed students to keep working on their degrees in the days after Hurricane Katrina hit. The eLearning World University Rankings listed Grantham as the 13th best distance education program in the nation. It also received recognition for the programs that it offers for military students. Not only can those students take classes while stationed in bases around the world, but both military students and veterans qualify for tuition discounts. Grantham University has a total enrollment across both undergrads and post-graduate students of more than 17,000 today.

Grantham University Accreditation Details

Grantham University does not have regional accreditation, which may cause a few problems. There is a chance that the credits students earn will not transfer to other schools. They may also find that their degrees do not help them enter into a graduate school later. It does have national accreditation though, which comes from the Distance Education and Training Council. As this is a recognized organization, students can typically still get and use federal or state student aid.

Grantham University Application Requirements

The university accepts high school students who want to earn college credits and any student who wants to complete a certificate or degree program. Though Grantham will accept any student, it places incoming students on conditional status until they meet all admissions requirements. Those requirements include proof that the student has a high school diploma or its equivalent and that they have a way to pay for the semester. Bachelor’s seeking students must also participate in online classes within the first seven days of the term to become a full student. Students can also apply with a homeschool background. All students seeking a degree must submit the Grantham online application too. Prospective graduate students can also use the university’s online application, but they must meet other admissions requirements. These students must have a bachelor’s degree before classes start. Grantham asks for an official transcript that shows the student has a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and that they took courses that prepared them for a graduate program. Students with a lower GPA can apply for a waiver from the departments responsible for the degrees they want to earn. Grantham does accept transfer credits for any of its degree programs, but it requires that students take at least 25% of their courses for a bachelor’s degree from the university. Graduate students must take at least 50% of their required courses from the university. Grantham will evaluate each transcript it receives and determines whether the credits students earned will transfer and what classes the student still needs to take.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergrads enrolled in an associate or a bachelor program will pay $265 per credit hour. Veterans and any student currently serving in the armed forces qualify for scholarships that reduce their costs down to $250 per credit hour. Both graduate students and doctoral candidates pay $325 per credit hour. The university charges students this amount after applying a scholarship to their costs. Any incoming student will qualify for this scholarship program. Grantham estimates that students will pay a little more than $100 for the textbooks and supplies they need in each of their classes. Grantham has its own financial aid website that allows students to answer some basic questions and find out whether they qualify for federal financial aid. This also helps students decide whether to submit the FAFSA. The FAFSA determines whether students qualify for any of the federal grants or loans that are now available. Depending on when the student applies, it might take as little as a month for them to receive their aid packages. While the university offers 10 different scholarships, some of these programs only award funds to minority students or those majoring in a certain subject. Some of these scholarships cover the total cost of earning a degree from the university though. Students can go online to view any of the scholarship requirements and to find out how to apply as well as the deadline for each one. These scholarships can help students cover the cost of finishing any of the online degree programs that Grantham University offers.
