About the College of Southern Nevada
The College of Southern Nevada is a community college in Nevada. It has several campuses across the state. It was established as the Clark County Community College in 1971. In 1991, it became the Community College of Southern Nevada. The college kept this name until becoming the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in 2007. All three of the college’s main campuses are in the Las Vegas Valley. Charleston, Henderson and North Las Vegas all offer classes. Eight regional study centers also provide opportunities for students, including one on the Nellis Air Force Base. CSN has an enrollment of more than 9,100 full-time students. College of Southern Nevada Application Requirements
Prospective CSN students should look at the degree programs that interest them before they apply. They need to apply before the next semester starts and make sure that the college receives their transcripts by this date. High school graduates and those who completed a home school curriculum need to apply online or on a CSN campus. Those with a GED can apply the same way. They will also need to complete a form to show that they are Nevada residents. They need to take placement tests in English and writing and math. CSN will accept an advanced placement, SAT or ACT score instead of requiring a placement test score. Students also need to sign up for one of the orientation sessions that the college offers. Dual enrollment high school students need to meet some of the same requirements. The college asks that they first decide how they will take classes and which campus they will attend. They will apply online and set up an account with the college’s website. High school students can take a placement exam or submit a standardized test score. Students need to submit forms to show that they have the approval from their high schools and parents to take college classes. CSN allows these students to rent their textbooks each semester to save money.Tuition and Financial Aid
CSN charges tuition rates based on the course numbers that students take. Those up to the 200 level cost $102.75 per credit hour. All classes above this level charge $168.25 per credit hour. The athletic and other fees add $17.50 per credit hour to their costs. There is also a $20 new student fee that is due when they first enroll. Students who are not from Nevada pay the non-resident rate of $113 to $185 per credit hour. This comes to $3,595 per semester for full-time enrollment.
