Degree Programs Offered at Broward College

Broward College appears in our ranking of the 50 Most Affordable Online Degree Programs For In-State Students. Broward College offers both two-year and four-year degree programs for students. It also has a dual enrollment option. Students can choose an:

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Associate of Science (AS)
Associate of Arts (AA) program

They can then and spend two years or more working on their degrees. The AA program offers a guarantee to students that they can transfer to a four-year public college or university in Florida. In the AS and AAS programs, students receive practical training that can help them in the workforce. Some of the available majors include:

The Dual Enrollment Program allows students attending public and private high schools nearby to take college classes. This program is also open to homeschooled students. They can take up to 12 credits of classes each term. They must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to stay in the program. They can take classes from different departments and in different areas. However, they may need to take some prerequisites before taking advanced classes. The college lets them take classes:

Some classes are available through local high schools, too. Bachelor’s degree programs are available, too, including an RN to BSN program that accepts registered nurses. End of Life is a unique course that the college offers that looks at how nurses can care for patients near the end of their lives. The college offers Bachelor of Science (BS) programs in Education and Environmental Science. The environmental science program includes two years of classes at Broward College and two years of classes at another campus. Students can earn a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in:

Each program includes a combination of management and business courses. There are also several certificate programs available from the college. These include:

About Broward College

During the 1950s, Florida added new schools across the state to give students access to more two-year degree programs. One of the schools that opened during this time was Broward College. It began as the Junior College of Broward County. It also served as Broward Junior College and Broward Community College. Most of those who attended the college in its early years came from Broward County or a surrounding city. Known as Broward College since 2008, it also uses the BC abbreviation. The Aspen Institute ranked BC in the top 10 percent of all American community colleges. BC still offers vocational training and two-year degree programs. Its expanded curriculum now includes bachelor’s degree programs, too. Some of the college’s classes are available online and on regional and high school campuses. Four study centers and campuses are outside of the United States, including those in Peru and Vietnam.

Broward College Accreditation Details

Broward students can transfer their credits to other schools because it has regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This type of accreditation is also required when students use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to get financial aid. The college also has accreditation for certain degree programs from organizations that include:

Broward College Application Requirements

Students in a home school or high school program in Florida are eligible for the college’s dual enrollment program. They need a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Standardized test scores that show they meet the requirements in English, math, and reading. They need a minimum score of 17 on the ACT, 24 on the SAT or 103 on the PERT. They can apply online. They must show proof that they have permission from their guidance counselors and parents to begin the program. Students who maintain a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher and a BC GPA of at least 2.0 can remain in the dual enrollment program. All other students applying to BC need to complete several steps. They will first apply and submit a high school or equivalency transcript. The college has two forms that students need to complete if they believe that they qualify for in-state tuition. Once the college receives all documents, students can apply for financial aid and complete their orientation. BC also asks students to pay their costs if they do not qualify for financial aid and get a parking pass if they take classes on a traditional campus. They can purchase their textbooks before the semester starts too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Students taking vocational courses and those enrolled in professional programs pay $117.90 per credit hour on a BC campus. Cost $122.90 when they take online classes. Those who do not qualify for BC in-state rate pay $234.40 per credit hour for their online classes and $373 for their traditional classes. In the college’s vocational certificate programs, students pay $84.35 per credit hour as a resident and $325.60 as a nonresident. BC charges residents between $130.89 and $135.89 per credit hour for students in its online and traditional bachelor’s programs. This amount rises to between $319.75 and $589.45 per credit hour for non-residents. All students attending BC can apply for scholarships and other types of financial aid. They must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The Broward Futures program helps students get scholarships that cover the cost of taking up to 30 credits of courses.
