The school does not require letters of recommendation.

Transfer students must submit their application via the transfer application. Transfer students who require additional help can attend an Explore Appalachian Transfer webinar.

The school accepts traditional transfer students, as well as transfer students from the military. Students who are seeking a second degree and international transfer students are also welcome to apply.

International students must submit proof of English proficiency via test scores, including the IELTS, Duolingo, or TOEFL. The school also recommends, though doesn’t require, international students to include a CV or resume. They should include a personal statement with their application materials.

All international students must have their application materials translated into English, though the school will accept Spanish-language high school transcripts. Non-degree applicants are also welcome. Appalachian State University asks them to fill out the non-degree application and submit it with their $65 application fee. They may also be asked to do a conduct review. Students who are 65 years of age or older get a tuition waiver.

Finally, graduate students must begin the application process by filling out the online application. Master, specialist and doctoral students are all required to complete this step. The school asks graduate students to submit:

  • an application fee
  • official transcripts,
  • their test scores
  • a resume

(Test requirements could include the GRE, the GMAT, the MAT or the TOEFL.) ASU contacts graduate students’ references via email, so applicants should include the email addresses for their references in their application materials.
