About Blue Mountain College
Blue Mountain College originated in 1873. Confederate Brigadier-General Mark P. Lowrey opened the Blue Mountain Female Institute for an inaugural class of 50. In 1877, the Mississippi Legislature chartered it as Blue Mountain College for higher learning. In 1919, BMC formed a partnership with the Mississippi Baptist Convention. It was regionally accredited in 1927. Three decades later, Blue Mountain College launched a vocational Church training program. In 2005, BMC became fully coeducational. f In 2007, the M.Ed. in Elementary Education K-6 was developed as the first graduate degree. Endowed for $17.5 million, Blue Mountain College now employs 45 full-time faculty with 631 students from 11 countries online or on the 190-acre Tippah County campus. It has 20+ clubs and a 71 percent retention rate. In 2018, Blue Mountain won the SSAC Musco Lighting Champions of Character Team Award. The U.S. News & World Report named Blue Mountain College the 14th best Southern choice with the 233rd best online bachelor’s degrees nationwide. In 2015, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Board of Trustees voted to reaffirm the Level III accreditation at Blue Mountain College. Getting into Blue Mountain College is classified as “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s. 206 of the 207 Fall 2018 applicants were selected. This is a 99.9 percent acceptance. First-year students must fulfill 15 units of college-prep high school courses. Only GED recipients with subject scores above 410 qualify. Dual Enrollment students must finish their junior year with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 20 ACT score. The Class of 2022 achieved a mean unweighted GPA of 3.39. The middle 50th percentile had SAT scores of 480-540 for Reading and 420-660 for Math. Mid-range admitted ACT scores were 18-23. Freshmen can transfer up to 30 AP, IB, and CLEP credits by exam. Current undergrads must transfer or re-enter with 2.0 GPAs or better. Foreign learners prove English skills with at least 6.5 IELTS, 80 TOEFL iBT, or 1020 SAT scores. The Office of Graduate & Continuing Education requires accredited, four-year bachelor’s completion at GPAs above 2.5. Master of Business Administration cohorts need a 450 or higher GMAT score. M.Ed. entrants must verify current K-12 teaching certification. Blue Mountain College has rolling admission year-round. Final registration deadlines are:- August 23rd for Fall
