About Judson College

Judson College originated in 1838.  Siloam Baptist Church established the  higher learning institution in honor of missionary Ann Hasseltine Judson.  In 1841, the Alabama State Legislature approved an incorporation charter for Judson. During the Civil War, Judson remained fully open. The Judson Female Institute was briefly closed in 1889 when its Jewett Hall burned down. In 1903, the Judson College name was adopted as postsecondary degrees grew. It was fully accredited in 1925. By 1966, Judson College had admitted the first six African-American women. In 1968, Judson partnered with Marion Military Institute for cross-registration options. Judson College is endowed for $15.4 million. It employs 29 full-time and 56 part-time faculty teaching 268 students. It has 30+ clubs like the Cahaba River Society. It has a with 65 percent retention rate. In 2019, Judson received the Awana International Meritorious Award. In 2018, Judson College had eight Non-USCAA Sport National All-Academic Team Award recipients. Judson received the Southeastern Library Association’s Charles E. Beard Award. The U.S. News & World Report featured Judson among the top 229 national liberal arts colleges. Judson College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This 11-state Deep South Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE). Judson College Application Requirements

Enrollment at Judson College is classified “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s. It has a 63 percent acceptance rate. First-year students must meet performance standards during secondary or GED completion. Only Dual Enrollment by Distance (DED) cohorts are welcome before high school graduation. College-prep curricula should include the following units:

• four English
• three history
• two math
• two science

Cumulative GPAs of 2.0 during grades 9-12 are required. Freshmen need a minimum 18 ACT score or 960 SAT score. If taken, Classic Learning Test scores must be 61 or better. Undergrads can transfer up to 64 semester credits graded C or greater from accredited Associate of Arts or Science programs. Advanced Placement credits will count with subject test scores of 3-5. Non-native English speakers must prove fluency with a minimum 550 TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS mark. Judson College offers a convenient rolling admission policy. It’s suggested bachelor’s entrants apply at least six months before their expected enrollment. Current priority deadlines are:

• March 1st for Fall
• July 1st for Spring
• November 1st for Summer

Non-refundable paper processing fees of $50 are only waived until January 1st. Accordingly, complete the online or printable Judson Application early. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, Judson College charged traditional full-time B.A./B.S. majors $8,620 per semester or $17,240 annually. Overload credits above 18 cost $585 apiece. Residing at the Marion campus’ dorms adds $1,860 to $3,070 for semester rent. Standard 21-meal weekly plans  are $2,385 extra. Judson budgets $1,288 for textbooks and $2,884 for miscellaneous. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals about $33,272 on-site or $23,446 if commuting. The Associate Degree in Nursing is priced $743 per credit. Online courses are $495 per credit. The Dual Enrollment by Distance (DED) program bills high school students $110 per credit. Prior learning portfolio evaluation fees are $825 total. The Office of Financial Aid  helps 100 percent of incoming Judson students with tuition assistance. Assistance averages $15,454 apiece for $1.04 million combined. Institutional funds include:

The $2,000 AIAC Scholarship supports Native-American tribal members meeting the 22 ACT or 3.0 GPA minimum. The Acteens Scholarship gifts $3,000 to active Baptist Women’s Missionary Union members with cumulative GPAs above 2.0. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, require FAFSA forms coded 001023. The Alabama Education Grant also provides up to $2,500 annually to full-time, in-state undergrads.
