Degree Programs at King University

It’s one of the top options for students in Tennessee and other parts of the south. The university offers a wide range of degree programs for students who want to earn an:

• associate degree
• bachelor degree
• master degree

It also offers a few doctoral programs. King University offers one of the only bachelor programs in digital media art and design in the state. This program teaches students how to improve their visual arts skills. Students will create and submit their own work as they take courses such as:

• Introduction to Visual Rhetoric and Graphic Design
• Advanced Digital Imaging and Media Production

Undergrads can also earn an online Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. Online students must have a stable internet connection and a webcam. Students will learn  about kinesiology and human anatomy. They will meet some of the requirements for getting their coaching licenses, which will help them find jobs in elementary and secondary schools. The classes in this program include:

Students can choose a minor in kinesiology, health and fitness, or K-12 licensure. King University offers both online and traditional degree programs for graduate students. Its Master of Science in Nursing program features multiple tracks and concentrations. They can study nursing administration or learn how to work as a nurse practitioner or a nurse educator. Each of these tracks  require that students do a practicum. They complete around 400 hours of work in the nursing field. Online students can complete their practicums outside of Tennessee. Master of Business Administration (MBA) students can enroll in a range of different tracks. They can take traditional classes during the day or enroll in the online MBA program. The university also offers a program that includes evening and weekend classes. These classes allow students to take courses on one of its four campuses. Depending on which version of the program they choose, students will earn their degrees in one to two years. All MBA students will take many of the same classes. King University requires that they take at least 36 credits, including:

About King University

King University is a private university with a religious affiliation. It was founded in 1866 as a small Christian university. It allowed students to study and earn degrees while sticking to their religious beliefs.  It was called King College at the time. It moved to the city of Bristol after enrollment grew and its old campus couldn’t accommodate its student body. King became a full university in 2013 after changing its curriculum. The university announced that it would add even more degree programs in the future. The university offers both associate and bachelor degree programs as well as a few programs for graduate students. There are more than 80 different majors and options available for students. As King University is a religious school, it requires that incoming freshmen take four courses on religion and related topics that make up the common experience. Students will also take 10 general education courses. These are in addition to all the classes they take in their majors. King University students receive an outline when they  enroll that helps them see what classes they will take in the future.

King University Accreditation Details

King University is accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This regional accreditation provides opportunities for transfer students who studied at another school and want to transfer their credits. Regional accreditation also allows any student who needs financial aid to file for it.

King University Application Requirements

King University is a test-optional university. This means that it does not require that students submit an ACT or SAT test score. Freshmen can submit their scores if they think it will help them, but the university will look at all their information when making a final decision. Students must submit either:

• an official high school transcript
• a homeschool transcript
• proof that they have a GED

Traditional high school graduates should take:

• four years of English
• two years of history
• two years of social science
• two years of natural science
• two years of foreign language
• two years of algebra
• at least one geometry course

The university also requires a completed application. Any graduate student applying to King must complete an online application and provide the university with other documents. Those documents vary across programs. Nursing students must show that they have a nursing license that is valid and in good standing. Some programs require that students submit resumes or writing samples and letters of recommendation. King University allows students to view all application requirements before they submit their applications.

Tuition and Financial Aid

King University refers to a traditional student as anyone enrolled full-time in a degree program who also takes classes on its campus. Those students pay a little more than $28,000 a year for tuition and around $1,600 a year in fees. The cost of room and board for on-campus students is around $8,700. Part-time students and those who only take evening or weekend classes pay at least $265 per credit hour in an undergrad program. Graduate students may pay as much as $520 per credit hour. Students can actually check with the university and see how much they’ll pay based on the programs they want to enter. The university has its own financial aid portal that students can use after they apply. This portal lets them log in with a username and password to view the financial aid packages awarded to them. They can also find out if the university needs any more information from them. Financial aid packages can include grants from the university or the government and student loans. Students can get scholarships based on their test scores too. King University offers financial aid packages for students majoring in any of its areas of study.
